The Dynamic Symbolism Project is a new visual art form that crosses the boundaries between physical and digital art. This new media interaction uses paintings, touch screens, video, motion graphics and internet connectivity to enable two-way visual communication between viewers and the artist.  Conversations with thousands of viewers over several years of art shows reveal that the sharply delineated shapes and colors in the paintings encourage people to envision overlapping symbols, often based on their personal experiences and cultural heritage. A simple version of the Dynamic Symbolism Project has been field tested as an iPad prototype.
